It was only a couple of weeks ago that Oilers prospect Curtis Hamilton was sitting on his couch watching the NHL Network when his name was called by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2010 Entry Draft.

“The names go by pretty quick in the second round so it kind of caught me off guard. I had to pause it and rewind it a bit to make sure, but I’m really excited to be here,” said Hamilton.

‘Here’ of course refers to the 2010 Oilers Development Camp where Hamilton finds himself joining the likes of Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle and Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson.

Gathering with the other 27 players at the Clareview Arena, he has taken every opportunity to show off his reliable skills at both ends of the ice.

“He’s the dependable two way player that can play against good players and with good players. I think he’s a player that a coach can trust,” said General Manager Steve Tambellini.

The 19-year-old left winger from the Saskatoon Blades brings with him a solid six-foot-two frame and 211 lbs., adding some size to the camp roster.

“Curtis is an extremely smart player, he’s a great two way player, strong and he’s got good size,” added Head Scout Stu MacGregor.

After an injury prone season consisting of a broken collarbone (twice) and a separated shoulder, Hamilton only played 26 games for the Blades but still managed to record 16 points.

As for his effectiveness on the ice, Tambellini noted he doesn’t anticipate any issues in regards to Hamilton’s injuries.

A native to Kelowna, British Columbia Hamilton is the son of former Blades forward (1974-77) and current Owner and General Manager of the Kelowna Rockets, Bruce Hamilton.
