Oilers sign Giroux
High-scoring winger tallied 103 pts in 69 AHL games last season

General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms with free agent left-winger Alexandre Giroux on a one-year contract.Giroux, 29, spent most of the season last year with the Hershey Bears in the American Hockey League collecting 103 points (50G, 50A) in 69 games. He also suited up for nine games with the Washington Capitals scoring once and adding two assists.
The 6’3”, 190 lbs left-winger was originally drafted in the 7th round, 213th overall by the Ottawa Senators in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. He played in his first NHL game as a New York Ranger in 2005-06 before signing with Washington.
Giroux, who was born in Quebec City, Quebec, has 9 points (4G, 5A) in 31 career NHL games and 572 points (308G, 264A) in 636 career AHL games.
