One day after a disappointing shootout loss to the Czech Republic in the World Championship semifinals, Oilers prospects Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson and Linus Omark joined Team Sweden in the battle for a bronze medal Sunday.

With the surprisingly successful German squad as their opponents, the Swedes had to overcome not only the dangerous underdogs but also their rabid fans.

Thankfully for the visitors, Paajarvi silenced the throng only three minutes in. After receiving a pass from Christian Backman, the 19-year-old forward wove in and fired past Dennis Endras to give Sweden a 1-0 lead.

Despite being considerably outshot, Germany evened it up 16:03 into the second period thanks to an equalizer from Alexander Barta.

With a 29-13 shot lead after 40 minutes, Sweden regained control where it counts with a goal from Jonas Andersson at 3:57.

Trailing by one, the Germans opted for six skaters by pulling Endras with one minute remaining. Andersson capitalized by adding an empty-netter to seal a 3-1 win for Sweden.

Paajarvi finished the game with one goal, three shots, and a +1 rating in 16:35 on the ice, while fellow prospect Omark had two shots and was -1 through 15:42.

The bronze medal caps a successful tournament for both players. Paajarvi's five goals and four assists puts him in sole position of third place in tournament scoring behind Russia's Ilya Kovalchuk and USA's Brandon Dubinsky.

Omark had one goal, three assists and eight penalty minutes over the past nine games.
