The duo joined Team Sweden in a semifinal battle vs. the Czech Republic, but despite strong efforts during the game and a creative shootout goal from Omark after the allotted time, the Czechs progressed with a 3-2 win.
The semifinal showdown started strongly for the Swedes. 8:29 into the game, Omark helped Johan Harju beat Tomas Vokoun on the powerplay to give the Tre Kronor a 1-0 lead.
Czech forward Tomas Mojzis evened it up nine minutes later, but in the second period, Sweden's Andreas Engqvist renewed the Swede lead.
Trailing by a goal and nine shots after 40 minutes, the Czechs pulled up their boot straps in the final frame. Desperation set in as the seconds ticked down, and with Vokoun watching from the bench, Karel Rachunek made it 2-2 with only eight seconds left in regulation.
The Czech Republic outshot Sweden 7-2 in the 10-minute overtime, but goalie Jonas Gustavsson kept gold medal hopes alive for Sweden.
Swedish defenceman and captain Magnus Johansson opened up the shootout with a failed attempt on Vokoun, which Lukas Kaspar countered with a goal.
Then it was Omark's turn in the breakaway relay, and after skating in and faking a slapshot, the 23-year-old made it look easy by snapping the puck past Vokoun.
Unfortunately for Sweden, Jan Marek's successful shot and Tony Martensson's missed attempt combined to give the Czechs a 3-2 shootout win and berth in Sunday's gold medal game. Their opponent will be Russia, who recovered from an early German goal to win their 27th straight Worlds game in the other semifinal. Sweden will play Germany for bronze at 8:15am MT Sunday.
