After suffering a shocking 2-1 overtime loss to Germany in the opening game of the 2010 World Championship, Team USA was eager to redeem itself with a win over underdogs Denmark Monday.

But just like Friday, the Americans surrendered the first goal, evened it up, and then gave up the winner early in sudden death for their second straight 2-1 OT loss.

Oiler Ryan Potulny registered three shots in 14:12 on the ice with USA, while fellow Oiler Taylor Chorney played 4:57 on the blue line.

The game started slowly for USA, but they recovered in the second by dominating the shot clock 17-5.

Despite the American advantage, Denmark's Lars Eller was the first to light the lamp 8:52 into the middle frame, followed three minutes later by a power-play equalizer from Phoenix Coyote Keith Yandle.

Although the Danes came out strong in the third, it would take two minutes of sudden death for Stefan Lassen to clinch the upset by lifting a backhander over Scott Clemmensen.

"I saw the defenceman hestitate and went for it," said Lassen to the IIHF. "It felt unreal to see it go in."

"Inexcusable, the US should not be losing these games," USA captain Jack Johnson said to IIHF after the loss. "It's inexcusable. At the same time, it's hard to win games when you score just two goals in two games."

"We have a huge game against Finland. We have to start winning games or we'll find ourselves going home a lot earlier that we should. I'm very disappointed. We have to figure out a way to win a hockey game."

The loss marked the first time since 2003 that USA has dropped their first two games of the World Championship.

Also on Monday, Marc Giordano and John Tavares posted two goals each to help Canada trounce Latvia 6-1. In addition, Switzerland shutout Italy 3-0 and Finland edged Germany 1-0.

The Oilers next action will be Tuesday, May 12 when prospects Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson and Linus Omark join their Swedish teammates in a battle against France at 12:15pm MT. Chorney and Potulny are back in action with USA Wednesday vs. Finland. That game also starts at 12:15pm MT.
