“It’s been a great turnout and I think there is a very high level of excitement in the room,” said Bob Black, Executive Vice President Sports and Entertainment, Katz Group, and Project Lead for the Edmonton Arena District. “We have heard lots of words of encouragement and we’ve been inspired by today’s event.”
Held at the Art Gallery of Alberta, curious Edmontonians and Oilers supporters lined up for their chance to view displays and sketches of what the proposed district may entail.
Details on the the arena layout, new retail and office space, hotel options, and the unique winter garden area were showcased along with proposed parking, transit and pedway opportunities.
“As a proud Edmontonian, I like how it’s going to improve our city,” said Oilers Fan Frank Cirone. “As a hockey fan it’s everything I want to see."
“I like the design, it’s very futuristic. It looks like we’re making use of all the real-estate in downtown so I think it’ll bring a lot of people over here,” added Edmontonian Andre Lam.
Along with plan proposals, comment and question stations were located throughout the event space giving the public an exciting opportunity to have their opinions heard and queries answered.
