Nearly 300 fans packed Hudsons downtown filled with excitement, anxiously waiting to find out which team would win the first pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Molson, Hudsons and the Edmonton Oilers treated guests to complimentary appetizers and Molson 67s while fans mingled and talked hockey. Lucky tweeters even left with some great prizes including a team signed Oilers jersey, autographed sticks, Hudsons gift cards and a Molson beer cooler.

As the anticipation grew, it was announced just before 6:30pm MDT that the Edmonton Oilers will have the first pick overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

“It was awesome that Oilers put on this event just for Oilers Twitter followers,” said Seth Glick. “The best part about tonight had to be the Oilers getting the first round draft pick.”

Throughout the night, live from Toronto, TSN did live cut-ins and mentions of the Oilers Tweetup. Dan Tencer and Bob Stauffer were on-site broadcasting all the action live on 630CHED. Oilers netminders Devan Dubnyk and Jeff Deslauriers were also there to sign autographs and meet our fans.

“It’s great to see that so many fans follow us on Twitter,” said Oiler goaltender Devan Dubnyk. Deslauriers agreed, “Tonight was a big night and having the support of our fans means a lot.”

The tweeps all agreed the Oilers first Tweetup was a huge success.

“There was a great cross section of Oilers fans here tonight, and it really added to the excitement having the Tweets posted throughout the night,” Blake Robert,  an Oilers Twitter followers and Season Seat Holder. “The way the place lit up when they announced the first pick really reminds us we have something to look forward to next year.”

The 2010 NHL Entry Draft will take place in Los Angeles on June 25-26, 2010.
