Petry signs entry level contract

22-year-old defenceman, Oilers first pick in 2006, signs on for two years

General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have signed Jeff Petry to a two-year NHL entry level contract.

Petry, the Oilers 1st choice, 45th overall, in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, recently completed his third season with Michigan State University of the CCHA. The 6’2”, 200-pound defenceman from Ann Arbor, Michigan, finished third in team scoring and first in defenseman scoring with 29 points (4G, 25A) in 38 games.

The 22-year-old was also the team’s top scoring defenseman last season and was named MSU’s Outstanding Defensive Player at the team’s award banquet. In his freshman year he was honored as an NCAA West Regional All-Tournament Team selection and named to the CCHA All-Rookie Team.    

The Criminal Justice major played in every Spartan game the past three seasons scoring 67 points (9g, 58A).
