Movember (the month formerly known as November) is a moustache-growing charity event held during November each year that raises funds and awareness for men's health.
This November the Oilers organization joined the Movember movement raising over $25,000 for Prostate Cancer Canada. Eight Oilers players, the entire Oil Kings roster and 19 staff members spent the month of November growing moustaches while raising $25,658.
“Our organization came together this month, both on and off the ice, to make a significant donation in support of prostate cancer research,” said Natalie Minckler, Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation’s Executive Director. “I’m delighted by the leadership and initiative shown by our staff and players to take action in support of this important cause.”
In Canada, a total of 35,085 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas participated in Movember this year raising over $6,400,000. The money raised in Canada goes directly to Prostate Cancer Canada who will use the funds for the development of programs related to awareness, public education, advocacy, support of those affected, and research into the prevention, detection, treatment and cure of prostate cancer.
Donations can still be made to all participants by visiting http://ca.movember.com/ before December 15, 2009.
