As part of NHL and NHLPA's Hockey Fights Cancer initiative, the Oilers Ladies and the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF) spearheaded the successful Rally. The EOCF team and 15 Edmonton Oilers wives and girlfriends sold 5,000 team scarves, complete with an autographed player card, for $20 each throughout the concourse. All proceeds will be distributed to the Kids with Cancer Society, the Alberta Cancer Foundation, and the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation.
"The EOCF is pleased to stand up for a cause that has impacted the lives of many in Oil Country," said Natalie Minckler, Executive Director of the EOCF. "We are excited to join the NHL in this fight and offer something Oilers fans will be proud to wear in a show of their support."
To coincide with the 2009 Rally Against Cancer in-game fundraiser, the EOCF has also launched an online auction which continues until Monday, November 2, 2009 at 8:00pm MDT. Fans can log on to edmontonoilers.com to bid on Oilers memorabilia from the current Oilers roster as well as Oilers alumni. Auction highlights include Boys on the Bus alumni team signed items, an assortment of autographed game-used equipment and game-worn jerseys from game seven of the 2006 Stanley Cup Finals. Oilers fans can also bid on retro scarves through the online auction as well.
