The Oilers’ 30th NHL training camp opens Saturday, September 12th with players undergoing medicals and fitness testing at Rexall Place.
The next day, all players will hit the ice at Rexall Place for the first time, where 58 skaters (34 forwards, 16 defenceman and 8 goaltenders) will partake in drills and scrimmages led by the Oilers coaching staff of Pat Quinn, Tom Renney, Kelly Buchberger and Wayne Fleming.
The Oilers open their 2009 NHL pre-season with five games in six nights. Tuesday, September 15th sees Edmonton traveling to Calgary for a 7:00 p.m. tilt. The following night the New York Islanders pay a visit to Rexall Place, as do the Florida Panthers on Friday, September 18th. The Oilers head west to Vancouver for a game vs. the Canucks on Saturday, September 19th and will then travel to Saskatchewan the next day where they will have a rematch against the Islanders at the Credit Union Centre in Saskatoon.
The final three games will have the Flames in town Wednesday, September 23rd, a road game against the Tampa Bay Lightning on the 24th in Winnipeg at the MTS Centre and on Sunday the 27th, the Oilers will wrap up the pre-season with a home game against the Canucks at 6:00 p.m.
The Oilers open the 2009-2010 regular season on Saturday, October 3rd when they play host to the Calgary Flames in the first installment of the “Battle of Alberta”.
