Oilers appoint Wayne Fleming as Assistant Coach
Fleming will serve with Kelly Buchberger as an assistant to Head Coach, Pat Quinn and associate coach, Tom Renney

General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the addition of Wayne Fleming as assistant coach of the Edmonton Oilers.Fleming will serve with Kelly Buchberger as an assistant to Head Coach, Pat Quinn and associate coach, Tom Renney.
“Wayne brings an array of experience from both the NHL and International level,” says Tambellini. “We feel his knowledge of the game will be a complement to our coaching staff.”
Fleming previously was the Head Coach for the 2008-09 Avangard Omsk of the Kontinental Hockey League in Russia. He had been with the Calgary Flames as an assistant coach from 2006 to 2008 after three seasons as an assistant with the Philadelphia Flyers. Philadelphia posted a 130-67-39-10 during Fleming’s time with the club. He was also an assistant coach with the Phoenix Coyotes during the 1999-2000 season and prior to that he was with the New York Islanders for two seasons (1997-98 and 19998-99).
Internationally, Fleming has been an associate coach for Team Canada at the 2004 World Cup of Hockey and the 2006 Winter Olympic Games, working alongside Pat Quinn. He served as the Vice President of Hockey and Head Coach for the National Men’s Team for the Canadian Hockey Association, where he coached the National Men’s Team at the 2001 and the 2002 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship Tournament. Fleming also served as an associate coach for Canada’s Men’s Olympic Hockey Team which captured the gold medal at the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The Winnipeg, Manitoba native served as an assistant coach and general manager of the Canadian National Olympic Program for two years (1990 to 1992) and was a member of the coaching staff that led the Canadian National Men’s Team to a silver medal at the 1992 Winter Olympic Games in Albertville, France.
