Oilers/Falcons sign Colton Fretter
Forward signs AHL contract with Oilers affiliate

Springfield, MA – The Springfield Falcons, in conjunction with their National Hockey League affiliate the Edmonton Oilers, announced today that they have signed forward Colton Fretter to a standard American Hockey League contract.
Fretter, 27, will be entering his fourth season of professional hockey after spending the 2008-09 campaign with the AHL’s Portland Pirates. Fretter was one of only four Pirates players to appear in all 80 games last year collecting 24 goals and 16 assists for 40 points and 43 penalty minutes. Fretter set an AHL career best in goals, assists and points last season.
The 5-foot-10, 187-pound native of Harrow, Ontario split the 2007-08 campaign between the AHL’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Chicago Wolves and ECHL’s Gwinnett Gladiators. Fretter started his pro career with Gwinnett during the 2006-07 season when he led the Gladiators in goals with 36.
Prior to turning pro, Fretter played four seasons at Michigan State University from 2002-2006 where he recorded 43 goals and 69 assists for 112 points in 158 career games. He was originally drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the eighth round (230th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
