Grebeshkov signs one-year deal, will return for third season in Edmonton

Denis Grebeshkov led the Oilers in plus/minus with +12 and finished fourth on the team in assists last season.

General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms with defenceman Denis Grebeshkov on a one-year contract.
Grebeshkov, 25, established career highs in goals (7), assists (32), penalty minutes (38) and games played (72) last season, while also leading the team in plus/minus at +12.
Steve Tambellini says, “We are extremely pleased with the progress Denis has made and we feel he will play an important role with our hockey club this season. Denis is a quality person who has worked extremely hard in developing his game.
The 6’0”, 209-pound defenceman has played 176 career NHL games with the New York Islanders, Los Angeles Kings and Edmonton Oilers, recording 63 points (10-53-63) and 80 penalty minutes.
Grebeshkov says, “I’m very happy to be returning to the Oilers and the city of Edmonton. I’ve really enjoyed my time in Edmonton and I can’t wait to start next season.”
Originally drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft (1st round, 18th overall), Grebeshkov was obtained from the New York Islanders in exchange for defenceman Marc-Andre Bergeron and a third round draft choice on February 18, 2007.
On the international stage, the Yaroslavl, Russia native has represented his country on several occasions, playing in three World Junior Hockey Championships (2001, 2002 and 2003), and three World Hockey Championships (2007, 2008 and 2009), helping Russia win consecutive gold medals in 2008 and 2009.
Edmonton Oilers hockey is presented in part by the Rexall Family of Pharmacies, Molson Canadian, ATB Financial and Ford.
