Once again, this season’s schedule will see the Oilers play six games (three home and three away) against each of their Northwest Division opponents – the Flames, Vancouver Canucks, Colorado Avalanche and Minnesota Wild – for a total of 24 games. Edmonton will play four games against each of the remaining teams in the Western Conference, facing their Central and Pacific Division opponents twice at home and twice on the road for a total of 40 games.
Edmonton will play 18 games against Eastern Conference opponents to round out the 82-game schedule. The Oilers will play five games against Atlantic Division teams, eight games against Northeast Division teams, and five versus Southeast Division opponents.
This year’s home schedule once again features two games against each of the Oilers’ three Eastern Canadian rivals: the Montreal Canadiens are in Edmonton early in the season on October 10, the Toronto Maple Leafs visit Edmonton during the Holiday period, December 30, and the Ottawa Senators play at Rexall Tuesday, March 9.
The Oilers will also visit the other Canadian cities, starting with a trip to Canada’s capital city November 10 as part of the club’s second longest road trip of the year. Edmonton will embark on that five-game excursion in Colorado on Sunday, November 8, followed by Ottawa on November 10, Buffalo on November 11, Atlanta on November 15, and Columbus on November 16. Edmonton will also play Montreal and Toronto as part of a four-game road trip starting in Montreal on March 11, Toronto on March 13, Columbus on March 15 and finishing in Minnesota on March 16.
Other feature home games this season include the return of the New York Rangers to Rexall Place on November 5, the Washington Capitals on Saturday, December 19, and an appearance by Sidney Crosby and the Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburg Penguins Thursday, January 14. The Carolina Hurricanes and Philadelphia Flyers visit Rexall on February 1 and 3 respectively.
The first three months of this year’s schedule will see the Oilers play 21 home games and 20 road games, while the back half of the schedule (January, February, March and April) is the reverse.
