Oilers play last game before break

The Edmonton Oilers face off against the Dallas Stars tonight to close out their schedule prior to Christmas.

After dropping four of five games, the Oilers rebounded on Thursday in Phoenix to get back on the winning side of things. Prior to that game, Edmonton's last win on the road was here in Dallas on December 8 - a 2-0 shutout for Dwayne Roloson.

The Stars are coming off a big 3-0 shutout win Thursday in San Jose. It was their first regulation win since defeating Phoenix by that same 3-0 score on December 6. Dallas has a 3-4-0 record in its last seven games.

TV FOR TONIGHT'S GAME: The game tonight is not available on regular television but can be heard as always on 630 CHED. For those with Bell ExpressVu or any other participating cable or satellite companies, the game can also be seen as part of the NHL Centre Ice Package. On ExpressVu, the game will be on channel 433.

OILERS TO WATCH: Toby Petersen has picked up points in each of his last three games, with a goal and three helpers during that span. Petersen had two points all season before going on his current streak... Petr Sykora is also on a three game streak of his own (three goals, one assist)... Ales Hemsky has four points in his last two games... Since November 24, Jarret Stoll has picked up six goals and six assists for 12 points in 13 games played.

STARS TO WATCH: As the only defenceman to lead his team in both goals and points, Philippe Boucher is dangerous on the Dallas backend. With 11 goals and 25 points, he ranks second among league defencemen in goals and first in home goals. Boucher is red hot with points in five of his past six games (3-4-7)... Goaltender Marty Turco is 31-9-1 with a 1.82 GAA and .924 save percentage against Canadian teams since the start of the 2002-03 season.

ROSTER UPDATES: Edmonton - Ethan Moreau (shoulder) is out. Ryan Smyth (thumb) is doubtful. Dallas - Mike Modano (lower body) is day-to-day. Steve Ott (ankle) is out.

FAST FACTS: The Stars have had more success against the Oilers than any other team since moving to Dallas in 1993. Overall, they are 36-9-5 versus the Oilers and in 25 home games, they've only lost four times total (19-4-2)... Dallas has the fifth-best penalty kill in the NHL at 87.0% while the Oilers' PK remains tops in the league at 89.2%...
