Hejda to Hamilton; Roy to Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers have assigned defenceman Jan Hejda to the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League and recalled defenceman Mathieu Roy.

Hejda, a 63", 209-pound native of Prague, Czech Republic, was obtained from the Buffalo Sabres on July 10th in exchange for the Oilers 7th round pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He played eight games with the Oilers and scored one assist with four penalty minutes.

The 28-year-old defenceman made his NHL debut with the Oilers versus the Dallas Stars on November 3rd and scored an assist at Columbus on November 10th for his first career point.

    Roy joins the Oilers for the second time in his career and for the first time in 2006-07. The 62", 214-pound blueliner was the Oilers 10th choice (7th round) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

    In 25 games with Hamilton this season, Roy has scored 6-10-16 with 19 PIM and is +16 in 25 games. He leads Bulldogs defencemen in scoring and ranks fifth on the team with his 16 points. He is also among the team leaders in goals (7th), assists (5th) and plus/minus (2nd). The 23-year-old native of St-Georges, Quebec spent the majority of the 2005-06 season with Hamilton, scoring 3-16-19 with 82 PIM in 50 games.

  • Roy made his Oilers/NHL debut in 2005-06, when he appeared in one game. He wore sweater # 45 in his first NHL game on February 12, 2006 versus St. Louis and will wear #36 with the Oilers this season.
