Oilers host Canucks tonight

The 2006 Western Conference champion Edmonton Oilers (4-1-0) continue the home portion of their pre-season schedule as they host the Vancouver Canucks (1-4-0) tonight at Rexall Place. It is the first of two meetings between the Oilers and Canucks in the pre-season as Edmonton concludes the pre-season schedule at Vancouver on Saturday, September 30th.

The Oilers had their four-game winning streak ended in their last outing as they fell 2-1 to the Calgary Flames before a sellout crowd of 16,839 at Rexall Place on Saturday, September 23rd.

Edmontons winning streak saw the Oilers compile a 4-0-0 record from September 17th to 21st as they recorded a a 5-0 win over the Phoenix Coyotes (Sept. 17) in Winnipeg, MB, back-to-back home ice wins over the Florida Panthers (2-1 on Sept. 18) and Phoenix (3-1 on Sept. 19) and a 4-3 OT win at Calgary (Sept. 21).

Edmonton is 2-1-0 at home, 1-0-0 on the road and 1-0-0 in neutral ice games. The Oilers have outscored opponents by a 15-7 margin and have allowed one goal or less in three of their five pre-season games to date.

Following tonights game the Oilers take to the road for a two-game road trip. They conclude their pre-season schedule with games at Phoenix (Sept. 28) and Vancouver (Sept. 30).

Edmonton plays four different opponents during the 2006-07 pre-season as the Oilers play three games against Phoenix, home-and-home series against Calgary and Vancouver and one game versus the Florida Panthers. Four of the eight games will be played at Rexall Place, while the Oilers have three road games and one neutral site game.

Edmonton opens its 27th NHL season by hosting the Calgary Flames on Thursday, October 5th.
