Oilers announce first assignments

The Edmonton Oilers have reduced their 2006 training camp roster to 46 players with the assignment of seven players today. Six of the seven players have been returned to their respective junior teams, while one player was assigned to the Stockton Thunder of the ECHL.

  • Players returned to their junior teams were Riley Merkley (RW - Calgary - WHL), Brett Morrison (C - Gatineau - QMJHL), Theo Peckham (D - Owen Sound - OHL), Bryan Pitton (G - Brampton - OHL), David Schulz (D - Saskatoon - WHL) and Trevor Solomon (D - Sault Ste. Marie - OHL).

    Left wing Patrick Murphy was assigned to the Stockton Thunder, the Oilers ECHL affiliate.

    Edmonton hosts its pre-season home opener tonight as they host the Florida Panthers at Rexall Place at 7:00 p.m. It is one of three pre-season games the Oilers will host this week as the Phoenix Coyotes and Calgary Flames visit Rexall Place on Tuesday,September 19th (7:00 pm) and Saturday, September 23rd (6:00 pm), respectively.
