“This Habitat for Humanity Blitz Build is focused on building a house in record time,” said Natalie Minckler, Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation Executive Director. “The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation is all about giving back, this is one of the ways we can participate and really lend a hand to a very worthwhile cause in our community.”
The Blitz Build began on June 6th and aims to complete a new home for a deserving family in need by June 20th. Last year, Habitat for Humanity built 30 homes in the Edmonton area and have once again set high targets this year.
“It’s really important for us to have a solid volunteer base,” said Kate Duffield, Habitat for Humanity Volunteer Coordinator. “I was thrilled when I heard the Oilers Foundation and Ladies would be volunteering, they’re always hard-working and lots of fun.”
The Oilers Ladies and the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation are participating in their second Habitat for Humanity Blitz Build, the first was last year in Fort Saskatchewan.
“I was at the Build last year and that’s definitely why I’m back again this year, we had a blast,” said Heidi Pisani. “It’s a chance do to something amazing in our community; it’s exhausting work but so much fun, especially with the group that’s here.”
The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF) is dedicated to building strong and vibrant communities by contributing its resources and financial support to charitable organizations that serve the residents of Oil Country. Since 2001, the EOCF has worked to change lives in Oil Country through their support of a host of deserving organizations. The Foundation gives back in excess of $1 million annually to registered charities throughout Central and Northern Alberta who focus their activities on youth, education and health and wellness.
