General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have placed left wing Robert Nilsson on the NHL Injured Reserve List and recalled centre Gilbert Brule from the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League.

Nilsson suffered an upper body injury in the Oilers November 30th road game at Dallas and did not dress in Edmonton’s 5-2 win versus the Stars at Rexall Place on December 3rd. He has scored 3-5-8 with 12 penalty minutes in 23 games for the Oilers this season.

Brule will be making his first appearance with the Oilers since being obtained from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for Raffi Torres on July 1, 2008. The 5’10”, 180 pound native of Edmonton, Alberta has scored 8-4-12 with 32 penalty minutes in 15 games with the Oilers AHL affiliate. The 21-year-old forward is third on the Falcons scoring list and is second in both goals and powerplay goals (3).

The Blue Jackets’ first choice in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Brule has played 146 NHL career games since making his debut with Columbus in 2005-06 and has scored 12-20-32 with 52 penalty minutes. He played 61 games with the Blue Jackets in 2007-08 scoring 1-8-9 with 52 penalty minutes and added 5-5-10 in 16 games with the AHL’s Syracuse Crunch.
