The worlds fastest cyclist, Edmontons own Lori-Ann Muenzer, will greet fans at Rexall Place tonight when the Edmonton Oilers face-off against the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.
Together with the Oilers, as part of EPCORs Parade of Champions program, Lori-Ann Muenzer will sign autographs for fans during the second intermission, offering a personal opportunity to see her Olympic Gold Medal, won at the 2004 Athens Summer Olympics.
"We are honored to work with EPCOR in promoting the Parade of Champions program, and in welcoming Lori-Ann Muenzer to Rexall Place," said Patrick LaForge, President & CEO of the Edmonton Oilers. "Lori-Anns success is a true testament to companies like EPCOR that support amateur athletes, and help them achieve their Olympic dreams."
"Lori-Ann Muenzer epitomizes the spirit of hard work and determination and she has a remarkable story to tell," said Denise Carpenter, EPCOR Senior Vice-President of Public and Government Affairs. "Lori-Ann won Olympic Gold because she refused to let her fire go out and now she's bringing that inspiration to young people getting involved in cycling. EPCOR's Road to Excellence program is part of EPCOR's goal to provide amateur sports federations with the funding they need to develop champions like Lori-Ann."
EPCORs Community Investment Strategy for 2006 – 2010 includes fundraising dinners across Canada in support of National Sports Federations that train and coach young Canadian athletes who may have Olympic dreams. It also includes a Sports Excellence Fund to provide support to a number of communities, across Canada, in which EPCOR has operations and employees. Single tickets are still available for Thursday nights Oilers game against the Anaheim Mighty Ducks at all Ticketmaster outlets, online at www.edmontonoilers.com, or by calling 414-GOAL.
