Earning 60.0% of the votes from Oilers fans, Ales Hemsky's breakaway goal against the Calgary Flames on January 13, 2008 was voted the top play of the 2007-08 season, beating out Mathieu Garon's October 28 save against the Anaheim Ducks.
In the first round, the goal went up against Dustin Penner's versus the Chicago Blackhawks (December 23) and soundly defeated it 92.5% to 7.5%.
Second round posed a bit more of a challenge as Hemsky's goal faced Sam Gagner's shootout winner against the Los Angeles Kings. It won this time around, 79.4% to 20.6%.
In the third round, the goal battled Andrew Cogliano's third consecutive overtime winner versus the St. Louis Blues. Hemsky's goal won 62.4% to 37.6%.
