OILERS SIGN GOLDEN BEARS GOALTENDER AARON SOROCHAN TO AMATEUR TRY-OUT
With goaltender Dwayne Roloson sidelined due to the flu, the Edmonton Oilers have signed University of Alberta Golden Bears goaltender Aaron Sorochan to an NHL amateur try-out agreement. The 6’0”, 180-pound native of Edmonton will dress as back-up to Mathieu Garon for tonight’s Oilers’ game versus the New Jersey Devils at Rexall Place. Sorochan is currently in his third season with the Golden Bears and has backstopped Alberta to an 11-3-0 record and first place in the Canada West Universities Athletic Association (CWUAA) standings this season. In 13 conference games, Sorochan has compiled a 10-2-0 record with a 2.50 goals-against average, a .902 save percentage and one shutout. His 10 wins leads the conference and he is second in goals-against average. Overall, the 23-year-old netminder is 12-2-1 with a 2.44 goals-against average and .904 save percentage in 17 games.

Since joining the Golden Bears in 2005-06, Sorochan has played 80 games and has a 59-17-2 (.769) record with a 2.33 goals-against average and .914 save percentage.

Sorochan was named to the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) All-Canadian team in 2006-07 and was twice named to the Canada West Hockey first all-star team (2006 & 2007). He won the Clare Drake Award as the CIS Freshman-of-the-Year was named to the CIS All-Freshman Team in 2005-06, backstopping Alberta to its record-setting 12th CIS University Cup national championship.

He played five seasons (2000-01 to 2004-05) in the Western Hockey League with Prince Albert, Vancouver and Lethbridge prior to attending the University of Alberta.

Sorochan will wear sweater #30.
