Sam Gagner to remain with the Oilers
- Sam Gagner speaks with Morley Scott about the decision to not send him to the World Junior Hockey Championship
Oilers General Manager Kevin Lowe said, “Sam has adjusted nicely to his first season in the National Hockey League and has been playing a prominent role with our hockey club. We feel this is the right decision for our team, our fans and for Sam’s personal development.”
Gagner has been excellent in the shootout in his first NHL season. Taking part in seven of the Oilers NHL leading eight shootouts, Gagner has scored four times and has registered the game-deciding goal on three occasions. His three game-deciding goals leads the NHL and are two shy of the NHL single season record.
Gagner was named the MVP of the 2007 Summit Series between the Canadian and Russian national junior teams held in September. He led all scorers in the eight-game series with fifteen points on six goals and nine assists, leading Canada to a 7-0-1 series victory.
Gagner was the youngest member of the gold medal winning Team Canada at the 2007 IIHF World Junior Championship in Sweden.
