COLORADO AVALANCHE (4-4-0) at
EDMONTON OILERS (3-5-0)
Start Time: 7:38 p.m. MDT

The Edmonton Oilers return home following a three-game road trip, kicking off a two-game homestand beginning tonight against the Colorado Avalanche.
The Oilers fell 4-1 to the Calgary Flames on Saturday night and before that, they defeated the Phoenix Coyotes 4-2 on Thursday – ending a four-game losing streak. The Oilers sit in 12th in the Western Conference and last in the Northwest Division but a win could vault them into a tie with the Avalanche for eighth spot and third in the Northwest.
Colorado is looking for its first win on a current four-game road trip. They lost 5-3 in Chicago on Friday night and fell 3-2 in Minnesota on Sunday. Tonight is game three for the Avs.
Tonight is the first of eight meetings this season between Edmonton and Colorado. Last year, each team won four times.

OILERS TO WATCH: Raffi Torres has really started to pick up his play after a slow start to the season. After not registering a point in his first five outings, Torres has three goals in his last three games. He scored against Vancouver and then potted two goals in Phoenix. He was also one of the Oilers’ top forwards in Calgary and had several good scoring chances, including a breakaway in the second period. Shawn Horcoff has quietly played his way to the top of the Oilers scoring list. With two goals and six points, he is tied with Andrew Cogliano in team scoring.
AVALANCHE TO WATCH: Ryan Smyth is one player all 16,839 fans at Rexall Place will have their eye on tonight. Smyth makes his return to Edmonton after being dealt to the New York Islanders at last season’s trade deadline. In eight games, Smyth has three goals and three assists for six points with the Avalanche… Paul Stastny has been one of the season’s biggest surprises to-date in the NHL. Last year’s rookie-of-the-year finalist came on strong at the end of the season to finish with 28 goals and 78 points but this year he’s taken it to a new level. Through eight games, Stastny is second in the league with 14 points. He had a five-game scoring streak snapped on Sunday in Minnesota. He had 11 points in those five games.
ROSTER UPDATES: Edmonton – Sheldon Souray (shoulder) is out. Ethan Moreau (foot) is out. Joni Pitkanen (knee) is out. Mathieu Roy (concussion) will draw back into the lineup tonight; Colorado – Milan Hejduk (back) is day-to-day. Brad Richardson (back) is questionable.
FAST FACTS: Minnesota had two power play goals against Colorado on Sunday. Prior to that, the Avs had killed off 19 consecutive power play chances and 29 of 30… Colorado forward Andrew Brunette needs one more point to reach 500 for his career… Joe Sakic needs only three more points to become only the eighth player in NHL history to reach 1600 career points. He is the current active leader in career points… Colorado is 4-0-0 at home but has not yet won on the road with an 0-4-0 record.
