Just The Facts...
|TONIGHT'S GAME PROGRAM|
OILERS TO WATCH: Two former Flyers will be looking to sink their old club tonight while suiting up for the Oilers. Geoff Sanderson had 11 goals and 29 points in 58 games with Philly last year but the season before he scored 25 goals for the Phoenix Coyotes… Joni Pitkanen led the Flyers in ice-time and ranked third on the team in overall points but was jettisoned in the off-season in favour of Kimmo Timonen. He’ll look to prove Philadelphia made a mistake by dealing him away. Along with Sheldon Souray, Pitkanen will be one of the key ingredients to Edmonton’s revamped power play.
FLYERS TO WATCH: The player wearing the “C” tonight for Philadelphia will have a familiar face for Oilers fans. Defenceman Jason Smith was traded to the Flyers from Edmonton this past offseason and last week as named captain of the team… Joffrey Lupul also makes his return to Edmonton tonight... As one of only two Philadelphia players to score more than 20 goals last season, Simon Gagne remains a key cog in the Philly offence. With 41 goals last season, he’ll be looked upon to match those totals in 2007-08… Daniel Briere was added as an unrestricted free agent in the summer to complement Gagne and he should do just that with 63 assists and 95 points as a Sabre in 2006-07. He got off to a great start with two goals in Thursday's 3-2 win in Calgary.
ROSTER UPDATES: Edmonton – Ethan Moreau (ankle) is still out. Mathieu Roy (concussion) is out; Philadelphia – Mike Rathje (groin) is questionable. R.J. Umberger (finger) is out. Scottie Upshall (wrist) is out. With no real enforcers of note on the Oilers roster, the Flyers will likely sit tough guy Jesse Boulerice, giving Riley Cote his first action of the season.
FAST FACTS: Edmonton has a record of 24-28-8 all-time versus the Flyers and 14-8-6 at home… Last time Edmonton lost to Philadelphia was March 19, 2001 – a 4-2 defeat at home. The Oilers have a record of 3-0-1 since that loss… The Flyers only have seven players still on their roster from the last time these two teams met – Sami Kapanen, Mike Knuble, Jeff Carter, Simon Gagne, Mike Rathje, Mike Richards and R.J. Umberger.
