"I think it is important that the Edmonton community share in the benefits from the sale of the collection, as everyone in our community is so proud to live in the Heartland of Hockey. It was a natural fit to have proceeds directed towards the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation," said Elaschuk.
A few highlights of the auction include Wayne Gretzkys 1979-80 Rookie Jersey, which could shatter the $135,000 US world record as the highest amount paid for a game-worn jersey, currently held by an early 1970s Bobby Orr Boston Bruins Jersey. Mark Messiers last game-worn Oilers jersey from the 1990-91 season is one of the other 60 game worn jerseys. The 500+ game used sticks in the auction support why Elaschuk was given the handle The Stick.
To register for the auction go to www.classicauctions.net. "We felt it was important that the sale of Ricks Collection was done via a public auction with open access for all fans and collectors," stated Marc Kronewitt, CEO RAMP Management Group. "With the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation as a benefactor there will be a legacy that will be driven back into the community that watched Oilers Legends win 5 Stanley Cups.".
