Oilers Announce Marketing Partnership with Alberta Pork
The Edmonton Oilers have announced a major new marketing partnership with Alberta Pork, the organization representing pork producers in the province.

The agreement is part of a broad new marketing program from Alberta Pork designed to build relationships with sports audiences. The Oilers hockey agreement expands on a past successful food service program that provides prominent signage at hockey games, major contests on the Alberta Pork Web site (www.albertapork.com), and more opportunity to promote pork products in the concession areas at Rexall Place. It also links to a variety of other Alberta Pork initiatives, such as new retail efforts for reaching into and supporting the community at a local level.

"The Edmonton Oilers believe this is a valuable new partnership for all involved," said Stew MacDonald, Executive Vice President of Marketing & Sales for the Edmonton Oilers. "Alberta Pork has strong ties and a long history with NHL hockey, and corporate support from an industry that also reaches across the province is great for Oilers fans, our community, and our hockey team."

This relationship with Alberta's professional hockey teams is an important one for Alberta Pork, says Roy Kruse, Manager of Consumer Services at Alberta Pork. He says the association has been looking for ways to establish a formal connection with sports in the province for some time. Earlier this year Alberta Pork signed marketing agreements under its Pork Sports program with the Edmonton Eskimos and Calgary Stampeders football clubs.

"In developing our pork marketing program, we see a way to reach those who value healthy, active lifestyles which is the very essence of sport activity," says Kruse. "Pork is a high quality, lean protein source that meets the nutritional needs of athletes and their fans. Sports draws people together in such a positive way, and there is a very natural connection to the enjoyment of food."
