Youngs recall was made necessary following injuries to Oilers defencemen Steve Staios (left knee) and Jan Hejda (left shoulder) in Edmontons 3-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on March 7th.
With the injuries to Staios and Hejda, the Oilers now have 10 players sidelined due to injury. Out of the lineup are defencemen Tom Gilbert (concussion), Jan Hejda (shoulder), Mathieu Roy (concussion), Steve Staios (knee) and Daniel Tjarnqvist (inflamed pubic bone), and forwards Ales Hemsky (shoulder), Ethan Moreau (shoulder), Petr Nedved (knee), Marty Reasoner (shoulder) and Jarret Stoll (concussion).
Young, a 61", 191-pound 20-year-old from Ennismore, Ontario, has scored one assist with two penalty minutes and is +1 in eight games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The Penguins are the third team he has played for in 2006-07, as he has also skated for the AHLs Milwaukee Admirals and the Stockton Thunder of the ECHL.
With Milwaukee, Young was scoreless with six penalty minutes in 22 games and he had four assists and 24 penalty minutes in 17 games with Stockton.
The Oilers 6th choice (5th round), 146th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft is in his first professional season after playing four seasons with the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League. In 186 games with the Petes from 2002-03 to 2005-06, Young scored 1-29-30 with 220 penalty minutes. He played in the 2006 Memorial Cup with Peterborough in his final season of junior hockey.
