For four days in September, Camrose, Alberta will be the focus for Edmonton Oilers fans as ATCO presents the “Oil Country Rookie Tournament”, featuring the top prospects from the Oilers, Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks.
From Saturday, September 13th to Tuesday, September 16th, Oilers rookies will be conducting practice sessions and hosting a tournament at Encana Arena in Camrose’s newly opened Edgeworth Centre (4512 – 53 Street).
Forty (40) Edmonton Oiler prospects will report to Rexall Place this Friday, September 12th and will undergo medicals and fitness testing in the Edmonton Oilers dressing room. Following the testing, players, coaches and management will travel approximately 95 kilometres southeast to Camrose.
For the first time in many seasons, the Oilers Rookies will face-off against teams of rookies from both the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks. The Oilers Rookies will host the Calgary Flames Rookies at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 14th and the Vancouver Canucks Rookies on Tuesday, September 16th. The Calgary and Vancouver rookies will face each other on Monday, September 15th.
In addition to the Oil Country Rookie Tournament, the annual exhibition game between the Oilers Rookies and the University of Alberta Golden Bears will take place on Monday, September 15th, with the two teams facing-off at 7:00 p.m. at Clare Drake Arena in Edmonton.
As always, the Edmonton Oilers are pleased to support communities throughout Oil Country. Proceeds from the Oil Country Rookie Tournament will stay in Camrose, as the Camrose Minor Hockey Association and the Camrose Kodiaks Education Fund will both benefit from this year’s event.
