CANADA 4 vs. SLOVENIA 3 (OT)
With a 4-3 win over Slovenia in overtime, Canada moved back into first with 18 points, just one point ahead of Switzerland. Steven Stamkos was the overtime hero as he scored 3:36 in the extra frame.
Ryan O’Reilly almost opened the scoring for Canada early in the first as his shot from the point beat Luka Gracnar on the short side but not the post. The puck bounced back out and hit Gracnar, but he was able to squeeze it in between his arm to keep the game scoreless.
Slovenia got on the board first as Jan Urbas cut across in front to skate past three Canadian players before shooting the puck. Devan Dubnyk was able to get a piece of it but the puck bounced up and out of his glove and behind him to put Slovenia up, 1-0.
A few minutes later, Slovenia picked up the turnover in the Canadian zone and Urbas went on the breakaway as he beat Dubnyk for his second of the night.
In the second, Jay Harrison began the rush up the ice and made the drop pass to Jordan Staal. From the point, Staal’s shot was stopped but Matt Duchene with the rebound beat Gracnar on the short side to cut the lead in half.
Fifty seconds later, Stamkos down low tried the wraparound attempt but was denied by Gracnar. Giroux was beside the net and picked up the rebound, brought the puck behind the net and made a pass to Steven Stamkos, who found the back of the net to tie the game at two.
Slovenia would get one back as Rok Jajic won the faceoff in the Canadian zone and made a pass back to Luka Tosic. From the point, Tosic threw the puck on net with Tomaz Razingar in front and he redirect the puck in past Dubnyk as Slovenia retook the lead, 3-2.
In the third, Canada had the chance to tie it up as Duchene made a cross-ice pass to Eberle but Gracnar stuck out the right pad and made the save.
A few minutes later, Hall in the corner tried to centre the puck to Jeff Skinner but Skinner missed the pass and all alone in the high slot was Brendan Dillon and with the wrister beat Grancar top left corner to tie the game at three.
Sixty minutes would solve nothing as they went into overtime and midway through the period, Dan Hamhuis from the Canadian corner made the long stretch pass to Stamkos and on the breakaway beat Gracnar top left corner to win 4-3 in overtime.
Canada are now currently one point ahead of Switzerland and back in first but for Canada to remain there, Switzerland would need to lose to Belarus on Tuesday.

Jordan Eberle was pointless in the game with three shots on net and 11:23 of ice time.
