The Edmonton Oilers Home Opener celebrations, which began with an old fashioned shinny game in Hawrelak Park attended by more than 1,500 and three open practices that drew more than 10,000 fans collectively, now enter an exciting new phase. The Oilers thank their fans for displaying such passion and welcome them to what is going to be a thrilling season.
The festivities this week will focus on the future and one of the great, young teams in the game today, a club that symbolizes all that is Oil Country.
93 jerseys will be given away to fans this week as the Oilers battle on the ice during the first two home games of the 2012-13 season. Winning fans will be able to select the jersey of their favourite Oiler from any era and the player will autograph that sweater for the fan. If a fan selects a player off the current roster, that player will sign the jersey and present it to the fan.
Fans can also win one of 64 pictures with the players, one of 4 sets of gold season seats for this season, one of 83 pairs of tickets for individual games, one of 2 pairs of tickets on the team charter for a road game and one of 14 locker room tours to see where stars of the game today gear up for battle amidst reminders of past glory. In addition, fans will be able to enjoy 55% discounts on food and 40% discounts on merchandise.
Fans from all across Oil Country will be able to participate in one more cool promotion, which will be detailed tomorrow when a special delivery arrives on site at Rexall Place.
Community is a high priority for the Oilers and, thus, the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation is coming forward in on the act with a unique project to help change lives of those in need. For the first 19 periods of the season, the Foundation will donate $1,000 in the winning fans’ names to the charities of their choice. That will unfold as Dreams Take Flight comes forward to be the first charity recipient for Win 50 this season. The money raised during Home Opener Week will add to the more than 22 million dollars given back to the community since the Foundation was formed in 2001.
The Oilers will stage the contests on a variety of platforms due to the large number of giveaways. Most of the prizes will be awarded during the games at Rexall Place Tuesday and Thursday. There will also be ways to win on the Oilers website and social media channels as well as with our broadcast partners for the two games, 630 CHED, the anchor on the Oilers Radio Network, and TSN.
All the numbers in the contest reflect various players on the Edmonton Oilers, who are out to deliver a a thrilling season that reflects everything we see in Oil Country - a smaller place where people dream bigger, and then go out and make it happen.
