RUSSIA 7, GERMANY 0
Oilers prospects Nail Yakupov and Danil Zharkov shone brightly in Russia's 7-0 win over Germany on Saturday after being put together on the same line.
Yakupov had a goal and an assist plus three shots on net and was +2 while Zharkov scored a goal, had two shots and was +1.
Oilers prospect Tobias Rieder led the way for Germany with seven shots on goal and was -2.
Russia got on the board early when Mikhail Grigorenko spotted Nikita Kucherov in the slot. Kucherov made no mistake, rifling it past German goalie Marvin Cupper to make it 1-0 for the host Russians only 1:18 into the game.
Near the midway point, Yakupov struck for his first of the tournament to double the Russian lead to 2-0. After dishing the puck to Alexander Khokhlachyov, Yakupov drove to the net and banged home the rebound.
Three minutes later, Zharkov scored to make it 3-0 for Russia. Yakupov made a great move on the side boards before a seeing-eye pass right on the stick of Zharkov. All the Oilers prospect had to do was tap it in for the goal, his first of the tourney.
Overall, the Germans had 41 shots on Russian netminder Andrei Vasilevski but could not score.
Russia made it 4-0 on the power play in 13:57 into the second period. Albert Yarullin blasted a shot from the point that made its way through a screen and into the back of the net behind Cupper.
Three goals in the third period by Yaroslav Kosov gave the Russians the 7-0 victory.
