Oilers forward Sam Gagner has sat out from game action since taking a high-stick to the face in September. The hit left him with fewer teeth and a broken jaw which required surgery. Now Gagner could be in the home stretch headed towards his return.
"I'm basically just waiting for the doctor to clear me," said Gagner. "It's a weird injury just because I have the plate in there and they have to be aware of how that's healing and how the plate is connecting to the bone and kind of everything like that. It's different compared to a lot of other injuries. It's not just how you feel. I feel like I could go today, it's just a matter of a timeline that the doctors have so hopefully I can get going soon."
Gagner has been practicing with the team now, even filling in during practice for injured or absent players. That's the next step, says Gagner, but he'd rather be playing games.
"I feel good," said Gagner. "It's nice to just be back with the team and practicing at least. That's the next step. I think you miss that when you're injured, just being around the guys and getting a chance to play hockey and practice with the team. That's nice, but at the end of the day you want to play in games and that's the next step for me. Hopefully that happens sooner rather than later."
