The 11th head coach in Edmonton Oilers history, Ralph Krueger, is serving as an advisor to Team Canada for these Olympic games.
“Ralph’s experience on the big ice and the European game, the international game was something when the coaching staff met in New York, around the draft, and (Mike Babcock) asked Ralph to come in and talk a lot, he thought he brought a lot of good information to the staff and wanted to bring him forward moving into the Olympics. So, really his experience in the international game, on the big ice was all agreed upon by the staff, that that would be a welcomed addition to us,” said team General Manager Steve Yzerman.
The former coach of the Oilers drew praise from the head coach of Team Canada.
“Well, we brought Ralph on board because he knows way more about the big ice than we do,” Team Canada bench boss Mike Babcock said. “The bottom line is, we don’t want to be making decisions over there because we got backed off, or something went wrong.”
Krueger is elated to serve his new role.
He said, “The opportunity to be a part of… the best country in the world, going at a gold medal is unbeatable for a coach.”
