BLOG: Bachman not too surprised
The Oilers starting goaltender for this evening's game will be Richard Bachman, who was recalled this morning from the Oklahoma City Barons in the AHL.
With the Barons this season, Bachman has a 2.37 goals-against average and a .925 save percentage.
Bachman says that he is not too surprised that he was called up this early into the season.
"You're a little surprised," said Bachman. But then again, I've been in pro hockey for five years and I've seen stranger stuff happen. You kind of don't get surprised by much anymore. You never know when it's going to happen. It could be when you don't expect it or it never comes."
The Oilers net minder has 32 career NHL games under his belt and a record of 14-10-1 with a 2.94 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage. This is an opportunity for the goalie to showcase his talents with Edmonton and possibly earn himself more starts.
"He had a good camp," said Oilers Head Coach Dallas Eakins. "But the other two are NHL goalies. I think they had earned the right to start here. As things move forward, it's always a challenge. The guys in the American League have to live their life on, 'I'm getting called up tomorrow',and they have to be ready for their chance. We'll see if Mr. Bachman is ready for his chance tonight."
