BLOG: Gagner to wear a full shield until February
Sam Gagner talked to the media after skating in Leduc on Friday. Among other things, he talked about having to wear a full face shield for a long period of time after he does return.
"I'll probably be wearing it maybe until Olympic break, I'm guessing," said Gagner. "They basically told me that it takes three to four months for it to heal fully, and that's without any contact to it so I will wear that for awhile as a precaution."
Gagner added that the last time he wore a full face shield was back in minor hockey around age 15.
Due to the injury, Gagner said he lost a fair bit of weight due to the injury.
"I lost eight or 10 pounds but I was able to get that back. I'm at 198 right now and normally play at 202ish so with the time I have here to get back into playing shape I should be able to get that weight back on pretty easily."
He added that the food he misses the most is steak.
"I'm getting tired of fish and soup and all that kind of stuff," he chuckled.
