Inside the Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers placed forward Linus Omark on waivers this morning for purpose of assignment to Oklahoma City in the American Hockey League.

Omark is a highly-skilled forward who hasn't been able to stick on the Edmonton roster. Head Coach Dallas Eakins touched on this topic at morning skate.

“Well obviously, we didn’t see enough for him to unseat somebody in that forward group," said Eakins. "I think he took too much on by himself. It’s clear that we want you to compete and there are all these things that go into the game. But a guy like that is going to have to put up some numbers and he wasn’t able to do it.

“I just thought he tried to do it by himself and not in a selfish way. He just put a lot of pressure on himself to come in here and make a mark and he knew that getting numbers was part of the process. He kind of took it on himself and he can’t do that in this league. He can’t do it in training camp either, these players now are too good.

The plan for Omark now rests on whether or not he clears waivers.

“If he gets picked up, we wish him well. Selfishly as an organization, we hope that he clears and he goes to Oklahoma City and gets his game up to speed and hopefully he’ll be back. “
